Sample Personal Statement Paragraph: Master of Social Work
(MSW)

I am deeply committed to the service of others, and most specifically to the service of troubled or neglected youth. The social and economic disparity evidenced in so many urban settings throughout the United States today both disturbs and motivates me. I grew up in Chicago's Near West Side, and I spent most of my formative years surrounded by the social nihilism of street-gang and drug-related poverty. However, today I am an optimistic and caring individual, and I remain deeply committed to addressing issues of urban poverty and social inequity that continue to plague the streets of the Near West Side today. I hope to find future employment in the field of social work that will allow me to assist in addressing or ameliorating some of the more pressing social problems plaguing inner-city Chicago communities today...
