Personal Statement Writing Advice: Tip 2

Answer the Question Carefully
Admissions committees must often read through thousands of admissions essays when making their selections. It is important, therefore, that your statement appears distinctive or unique in some way, and that the answers you provide are not only clear and concise, but that they are persuasive, too.

Read each question posed very carefully and ensure that the responses you provide are specific and well supported. Do not repeat yourself. Remain focused on the questions you are answering. Do not answer in vague or imprecise ways, and do not attempt to “pad” your responses with unnecessary words or phrases
. Do not provide extraneous or unnecessary information, as this will fail to impress an astute reader of your work.

Sample Wording

I am interested in pursuing course work that examines the principles of software design engineering, and, more specifically, in advanced study that embraces recent advancements in requirement specifications and quality.
